Nicola Piemontese was born in Foggia (Puglia region-Italy) where he completed the first part of his education, apart from a period of five years spent in Pesaro, Marche region. In 1973 he moved to Turin, where he graduated in Architecture at the Polytechnic. He started his teaching career and travelled widely for Architectures studies. Through Photography, he developed his inclination to Images and in the 80s he started painting for himself while attending also the Maestro Michele Tomalino’s studio, in Turin. His first exhibitions, in 1988 and 1989, were called “Symbolic Memory” as, at that time, his research was focused on a growing awareness of the unconscious through symbolic, dreamlike and enigmatic paintings. Since then, he has continued to work on themes such as the Urban View, the Italian Political Scene (Mare Nostrum), the Invented Figure and, above all, the Seaside, assumed to personal existential scenography. From 1989, he was professor for Architectural Drawing in Zurich, at the Italian-Swiss “Liceo Artistico” (www.liceo.ch). He has exhibited his paintings in Italy, Switzerland and Latvia. In 2000, he published his poems collection “Sprazzi d’esilio” (Flashes of Exile). Nowaday he continues travelling and studying.
